Scottish referendum on independence - what independence?

Picture
The Scottish National Party (SNP) government of Scotland wants to leave the United Kingdom to become a separate country.  It has organised a Referendum on 18 Sep 2014 with the question "Should Scotland become an independent country?"

The problem is that Scotland will not be independent.
It will be dependent upon the UK pound.
It will exchange one union with the UK - whose language we understand - for another union with the EU - whose languages we do not understand.
