Health

“He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his donkey, took to an inn and took care of him.” Luke 10:34

The spiralling cost of the National Health Service (NHS) is a vexing problem for all politicians, regardless of their political persuasion. Indeed, Oliver Blanchard, the International Monetary Fund’s economic counsellor, warned Britain that the current state of affairs is unsustainable, noting that “… that means reforms of the healthcare system. These reforms have basically to be confronted.” The Christian Party is prepared to do just that and confront reforms of our healthcare system head on.

In 2008-09, health expenditure was £5.65 Bn, 42% of the Welsh budget and there is every indication that demand on the health service will be unworkable. 23% of the Welsh population are long term sick, there is an increase year on year for every type of cancer diagnosis in male and female, nationwide projected rise in limiting life long illnesses and year on year rise in STIs in male and female. It is no exaggeration that the health of the population and health system is in crisis and needs to be urgently reviewed.

Welsh Christian Party will:

  • Sell off state-owned hospitals and healthcare facilities to private sector
  • Contract in services from private sector healthcare providers in order to maintain and improve the National Health Service provision.
  • Support initiatives, including the use of private medical insurance and compensation awarded by the courts, to bring personal financial responsibility to bear upon self-inflicted medical conditions and injury caused to others as a result of illegal or reckless acts.
  • Call for a review of the blanket implementation of the Liverpool Care Pathway urgently
  • Make private health insurance a visa requirement for migrants.
  • Oblige private medical insurers to inform the Home Office when a private medical insurance policy linked to a visa is allowed to lapse or expires.
  • Review Health and Safety legislation and reduce them to more appropriate levels.
  • Give parents knowledge of, and decision-making rights regarding the medical treatment of their children.
  • Promote Healthcheck for adults over age of 45 every 3-5 years.
  • Implement scheme similar to Oregan plan which grades priority medical treatments and operations.
  • Implement prescription charges to address wastefulness and encourage careful use of prescriptions.
  • Conduct research and longitudinal studies into vaccination programmes.
